Which is exactly what people that blame video games for everything are not. Every game has a rating, and oh hey what do you know, Call of Duty is rated M for Mature. It puts the responsibility in the hands of the parent, where it should be. This really should have been then end of if. People said, “Woah hey this isn’t shit kids should be seeing.” The gaming industry said, “You’re right!” and the ESRB was born. As I said it’s been a topic for over 20 years, the first major outcry came from the game Mortal Kombat in 1992, with it’s photorealism and violent fatalities. But this is an issue that’s already been addressed. I would even agree that they can be harmful for a young child’s impressionable, stupid brain. It’s always interesting to me how long this has been going on, video game violence has been a center of attention for over 20 years now, and there have already been numerous studies done, but it’s discussed like it’s a new issue all the time. Here’s this ultra-violent game, probably one of the most violent I’ve played, and once again video game violence is a growing concern. What really got me was how perfectly topical it was. I hadn’t watched any reviews and knew little about it save for vaguely knowing of it’s popularity and seeing the trailers on Steam (and hearing bits of the killer soundtrack). It was one of those situations that took me by surprise, I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. I just finished Hotline Miami yesterday, and I was completely blown away.
